Show off your neighborhood’s community spirit and horticultural know-how with an entry in the annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest.
The plant-filled competition aims to bring communities together to make Brooklyn a cleaner, greener place. The contest is open to residential and commercial blocks as well as community gardens in the borough.
The application process for this year’s contest is now open and participants have until June 1 to enter. There are eight categories, including the best overall residential block, the best window box, the greenest storefront and a special award for a block or garden demonstrating visible eco-friendly practices such as composting and rainwater collection.
Registered participants have the opportunity to brush up their garden skills with workshops, walking tours with Brooklyn Botanic staff, and more educational opportunities. Winners in the 2023 contest will be announced in a late summer in-person awards ceremony.
