Couldn’t get Outside Lands tickets? You may soon get a second chance to see chart toppers at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Mayor London Breed’s office announced a proposal to add a slate of concerts at the park directly following the city’s marquee music festival.
The proposed events, which would begin in 2024, would take place the weekend after Outside Lands and would use some of the infrastructure set up for the existing festival.
Another Planet Entertainment, the promoters behind Outside Lands, will produce the new concerts. According to a city press release, San Francisco Recreation and Park Commissioners will vote Thursday, May 18 on whether to recommend the Board of Supervisors approve a three year permit for the concerts.
“I’m excited to explore this new opportunity for live music in Golden Gate Park with Another Planet Entertainment while supporting our parks and recreation programming,” said Breed in the press release. “Music has been a vital part of the park’s history, from the Summer of Love to the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Outside Lands festivals of today.”

The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department said funds generated from proposed permit fees ($1.4 million for a two-day event and $2.1 million for a three-day event) would help pay for parks programming for children, adults and seniors.
While these new concerts would take place in the same area as Outside Lands, they will be significantly smaller in scale. The concerts will cap attendance at 65,000, 10,000 less than Outside Lands.

A main headliner and four or five supporting acts,” wrote San Francisco Recreation and Parks department spokesperson Tamara Barak Aparton in a text message to SFGATE.
Another Planet Entertainment is a Berkeley-based concert production company that oversees a number of high profile Bay Area concerts and venues. While they successfully run institutions like the Greek Theater in Berkeley and the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, the company is not without controversy. Another Planet Entertainment has come under fire for how it’s managed the Castro Theater since taking over the San Francisco landmark.
Aparton, for one, has no reservations about working with the concert promoters.
“Another Planet has been an incredible partner,” wrote Aparton, noting how the promoter helps restore Golden Gate Park after events and highlights the company’s efforts to minimize noise and traffic impacts.
Outside Lands is set this year for August 11-13 with Kendrick Lamar, the Foo Fighters and Odesza headlining.
