The victims have been identified as Vikas Dahiya and Veer Singh. Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Ravi Kumar said a PCR call was received at 5.44pm regarding the shooting at a property dealer’s office at the Lampur border. “Three people were present in the office during the attack. One Monty, who also works as a property dealer, was not injured,” the officer said.
Police found CCTV camera footage that showed that three people came near the office on a bicycle without any numberplate and fired six-seven rounds from outside the gate.
“One bullet hit Dahiya’s left hand and a piece of lead got stuck at the back of Singh’s head. Both of them were admitted to a hospital in Shalimar Bagh and were out of danger. The bullets’ impact was dampened due to the gate,” said DCP.
The inquiry has also revealed that the three property dealers share one office. “We are probing whether any of them had got any extortion call recently,” an officer said. A case has been registered at Narela police station.
A source claimed that for the past 10 days, one of the victims was receiving extortion calls in the name of Pahalwan, a gangster of the Kala Jatheri gang who is currently lodged in jail. Pahalwan was involved in several murder cases and booked under the anti-terror Act MCOCA.
“The caller had demanded Rs 50 lakh from the property dealer. On Wednesday, too, a call came, and just before the incident, a call from an international number was made to the victim’s phone and the caller threatened him for not fulfilling the demand ,” the source said. However, no extortion complaint was filed. The cops are also probing the angle of business disputes.
