In Gowanus, one of a row of four brownstones built in 2014 and designed by architect Gerald Caliendo combines contemporary and traditional features. Spread over four floors, the single-family has high ceilings, a coffered ceiling and paneling in the dining room, gas fireplaces, and marble-tile bathrooms. A recent update by interior design firm Studio SFW included fresh paint in moody blues and a cheerful yellow. There is also central air, a parlor-floor deck, large backyard and landscaped roof deck. The house last sold in 2017 for $3.506 million.

In the Park Slope Historic District, a brownstone designed by noted 19th century architect Magnus Dahlander and built in the 1890s has been divided but still has an impressive amount of original detail. At one time an SRO, the five-story townhouse is now a five-family configured with three floor-through apartments over a duplex. Photos show an impressive exterior with dog leg stoop, two-story oriel, and original double entry doors. Inside, the parlor floor and bedrooms have lavish woodwork, a pier mirror, mantels with original tiles, fretwork, and stained glass, all in apparently fine condition. An extravagant kitchen on the parlor floor appears to date from the 1990s, and no other wet rooms are shown. Presumably some updating of mechanicals and building systems could be in order.

Above are two floors of bedrooms, a full bathroom and a laundry room. The finished basement has a rec room and another full bathroom with shower.
