Alabama lands in top-six for Alabama native, FIU transfer Denver Jones

Florida International guard transfer Denver Jones released his top-six schools on Thursday. The schools that made the cut were Alabama, Auburn, DePaul, Florida State, LSU, and Oklahoma.

Jones spent two seasons playing for the Panthers. As a sophomore, Jones averaged 20.1 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 2.0 assists per game. He also shot an efficient 47.8% from the field and 37.1% from distance.

The Tide’s backcourt has one scholarship player scheduled to return next season. That is rising senior Mark Sears. Jaden Bradley and Nimari Burnett are transferring while Jahvon Quinerly has declared for the NBA Draft. Quinerly could elect to return as he maintained his college eligibility.

Jones’ addition would go a long way given the departures this offseason. He is a proven scorer that can score at all three levels.

It is fairly safe to say that the Tide’s biggest competition is in-state rival Auburn. Jones is scheduled to begin an official visit with the Tigers on Thursday. He has had an in-home visit with Alabama, but it is unclear whether or not he will make a trip to Tuscaloosa at this time.
