In the Crown Heights North II Historic District, this rental offers two floors of living space, in-unit laundry, and a garden. Taking up the parlor and garden floors of an 1890s limestone at 908 St. Johns Place, the duplex has three bedrooms and two full baths.
The angled bay rowhouse is one of an almost block-long stretch built by Frederick L. Hine between 1898 and 1899. Hine also served as the architect and built a substantial number of houses in the neighborhood, working with Carrie E. Hine, his development partner and wife.
The rental in the two-family home has the entrance on the garden level with living room, kitchen and a full bath. Bedrooms are upstairs with a large street-facing bedroom, two smaller bedrooms at the rear and a full bath and laundry in between.
In the living room are some period details including moldings and a columned mantel with mirror. Some of the original parlor level details can still be seen in the bedrooms including a pier mirror, a mantel with an oval mirror, and picture rails.
The large renovated kitchen has glossy white cabinets, an island with a dishwasher, and access to the rear yard which has two patio areas separated by a stretch of lawn.
The two full baths have also been renovated, one with a shower and the other with a tub and a wall of ‘Peacock’ wallpaper by Rifle Paper Co.
Other renovations since the house last sold in 2013 include the installation of a solar system.
Justin DuPree of Compass has the listing and it is priced at $6,000 a month. What do you think?
