Windsor Terrace Two-Bedroom Asks $799K

Windsor Terrace Two-Bedroom Asks 9K

Across from Prospect Park, this two-bedroom is in a 1960s building that the original builders promoted as providing “sumptuous living” with “outstanding appointments.” The unit on the fourth floor of 185 Prospect Park Southwest has had a renovation that left a few of the mid-century details intact while making clever use of built-ins to provide more storage.

The pale brick six-story building was competed by 1962 and an early brochure, which boasted of the aforementioned amenities, identified the architect as the firm Lama, Proskauer, Prober. The building was dubbed the Lakeview Apartments, and other perks included free air conditioning, spacious closets, Formica tabletops in kitchens, and dishwashers in the larger apartments.

Original floor plans show that this unit was original a one-bedroom; the dining nook was closed off to create a second bedroom. Other than that change, the layout remains intact. The front door opens into the large living/dining room; the kitchen is on one side and the bathroom and large bedroom on the other.

The living room has a wall of bookshelves, and another built-in incorporates the radiator and shelving on either side. A former linen closet next to the kitchen was transformed into a petite workspace and outfitted with a desk and shelves.

The galley kitchen has sleek white cabinets, white appliances and, in keeping with the clean mid-century vibe, what looks like a Marmoleum floor.

The bedroom in the former dining nook doesn’t have a closet, but does have a wall of built-ins. The other bedroom has a walk-in closet and the same under-window shelving found in the living room.

The updated bathroom continues the ’60s modern feel with blue square wall tiles, a penny-tile floor, and vintage fixtures, including a faceted wall-hung sink.

While the building has parking, there is an extra fee and a wait list. Other amenities include a rear yard, a first-floor laundry room, and a live-in super. Maintenance for this unit is $1,066 a month.

Maxine Resnick of Compass has the listing, and the apartment is priced at $799,000. What do you think?
